Samsung i8510 Review and Specs
8MP camera, smart entertainment, games and good web surfing – Sounds great? samsung i8510 looks appealing for the fist glance. If you are looking for a great camera phone in the GSM class, powered with all other features of a mobile phone, you may want to consider the samsung i8510/16.
Looks first
The samsung i8510 stuns a black metallic look, houses 4 keys in the front and a slider opens a full numpad. The joystick looks pretty sturdy and navigation is quite cool, but you might miss the touch interface though. Overall looks are good.
Samsung i8510/16 specs
Samsung i8510 is a mediocre weight mobile with 140g (iphone weighs 133g) and size 106.5 x 55.4 x 16.9mm. The mobile stands a talk time of upto 7.5 hours and a standby time of upto 330 hours, which is quite significant, though not the best. The display resolution is 240 x 320 and is quite good, being powered by 16M TFT QVGA.
Samsung i8510 for Business
A calendar, an office suite, push email and instant messaging are the basic requirements with syncing between devices a big plus for any business class power user. The samsung i8510 is half blessed as a business phone with push email and document viewers. Creating documents are quite a difficult task with java apps and instant messaging is also on the same track. The mobile covers up the disadvantages with a couple of other features namely – printing from mobile and the offline mode. A PC syncing option is present, but yet to take up full power of open mobile sharing standards and a calendar is very basic. I am not biased if i call it lagging in business ends.
Camera
While the samsung i8510/16 is not that powerful as a business model, it is certainly one of the best in the industry with a 8MP camera and a 9x zoom digital. The camera also boasts a high quality auto focus and is buttressed with a dual LED. The other innovations also involve Smile Shot, Blink Shot, Panorama Shot, Macro Shot. We were told that the panoramic view is really awesome. Camera and features in sharing make samsung i8510 one of the best in terms of camera.
Connectivity
High end users may feel the absence of the 3G network capability, but the samsung i8510 houses a wifi and bluetooth, together with a AGPS (GPS and ENHANCED GPS) and USB support. To make up for the 3G, the mobile is shoveled with a TV output feature, the usage of which is quite unclear, sharing photos? maybe.
Web browsing
With wifi as the only option for a wireless browsing, the samsung GT i8510 is powered by a really good java browser. The utility of SAMSUNG’s S60 3rd Party application adds some spice to the browsing, together with the enhanced GPS tools. Optical mouse and ability to switch between portrait and landscape views make a good browsing experience. 3G is the only thing missing.
Memory
The memory is pretty good with models categorized in two flavors, 8GB and 16GB. The phone book supports as my contacts that the memory can hold and the extra memory is on a microSD slot, upto 16GB. memory wise samsung i8510 is pretty good.
Entertainment
The real target not being business users, the samsung i8516 combines the camera and the entertainment as its trump card. SAMSUNG INNOV8 delivers a real class audio and video output, which are well above par, and can be termed best quality. The divx player is capable of playing all possible formats and playback of videos, streaming and video telephony, and video messaging. Apart from the multimedia, the samsung i8510 is a pretty good gaming device. We were pleased to see the FIFA 08 in samsung mobile, and also asphalt 4. These two games are loaded into the mobile for free. The music player is tough and is packed with 3D surround.
Price
Why buy anyhwhere else, but amazon and save ? Buy the Samsung i8510 INNOV8 16GB Unlocked Smartphone – International Version with No U.S Warranty (Black) or the Samsung i8510 INNOV8 8GB Mirror Unlocked Smartphone – International Version with No U.S Warranty (Black)

the absence of 3G is the only disadvantage, the camera and the fifa 08 is really good. And also touch is the principal source of input, which is missing..

i admit a lack of 3g is somewhat disappointing but it does have wifi which can be faster than 3g. I like the features that the phone offers and a 8 mp cam is what will lure hi res cam phone users away from phones like the n95 and not necessariy every thing has to be a touch screen, a touch screen can even ruin a good device it can be slow to respond, u can even crack it most people that crack their non touch screen and live with it but a single crack on your touch screen can ruin it entirely and think of the cost of that and time you have to go without the device
