Six Twitter Follow management Tools you need

Twitter tools

Twitter tools

Twitter has certainly revolutionized the lives of millions of people and adds to the internet addiction. Bloggers display the twitter followers count, just like they flaunt their feed subscriber count. While adding more and more people to your twitter list of followers is easy, there are a few twitter follow tools which make twitterland a delight.

Here is a list of 6 good twitter follow management tools that you may like. I have listed them in no particular order, but reviewed each tool with pros and cons. If you know good alternatives or other tools, please spare a few seconds to let me know via comments or twitter or my contact form.

1. Friend or Follow

Friend or follow is a cool twitter follow management tool, which gives you the list of people

  • That you follow, who don’t follow you back
  • That are following you, but you are not
  • Mutually following people

Such a list of twitter followers and following can be greatly helpful if you want to identity your friends who are following you, but you are not following them.

Friend or - follow management

Cool :

  • Lists followers, following, and the intersection of both.
  • Web tool, and hence platform independent.
  • No signing in required.

Cons :

  • None

twitter karma is another tool doing the same thing, but requires your user name and password.

2. Twubble

twubble suggests followers

twubble suggests followers

If you are already following hundreds of people, this tool is not great, But if you are looking for new followers, this tool is a boon. Twubble gives you a recommendation of twitters, based on your existing twitter followers. Just give twibble a shot, and it picks up twitters who are being followed by your friends and hence possibly of your interest. Find new friends on twitter using Twubble.

Cool :

  • Suggests more friends, based on your existing friends.
  • Not required to sing in.

Cons :

  • The algorithm can get better.

3. Qwitter

qwitter for unfollow notice

qwitter for unfollow notice

Losing your followers is one last thing you want to do on twitter. Even worse could be not knowing you lost them. Qwitter is one service that comes to your rescue. Qwitter keeps track of twitter handler and drops you an email, when one of your followers unfollows you. To add some spice, it also attaches the last tweet you made, which possibly could have triggered the unfollow (though the chances are faint)

Cool :

  • Sends you email when somebody unfollows you
  • No password required, since your followers list is accessible by others.
  • You wont miss your twitter interface, and is platform independent (web)

Cons :

  • Just the one feature.
  • The latest tweet probability is thin.

4. Twalala

twalala to mute/filter tweets

twalala to mute/filter tweets

Twalala is a Web interface for twitter, so ideally kind of reinventing the wheel. The only good feature is that you can mute a person, in sense that the spammer’s tweets no longer are present in the timeline. You can mute a person in single click. A couple of minutes of using twalala, we were impressed to see more features like filter using keyword. This interface could ideally help when the same news gets repeated over and again. For instance, you knew Obama won the elections, but everybody tweets the same message over and again.

Cool :

  • Mute a person
  • Filter by keywords (i read enough about “chrome”, block tweets containing the word “chrome” )
  • Web interface, and hence platform independent.

Cons :

  • You will miss your interface, say thwirl, twitterific
  • Trust factor. You are required to sign in. (no pagerank and very bad alexa rank)

5. Twitterless

twitterless for graphs, maps

twitterless for graphs, maps

You always want to keep track of your followers. Twitterless is one service that notifies you when somebody stops following you, besides doing other interesting things. Twitterless also gives you a graph of number of followers against time, which helps you visualize increase or decrease of followers. Another less useful, yet fancy feature is the map of your followers. I should call twitterless was started with a different mission and now that so many features are implemented, the name is not too coherent. Twitterless also lets you filter your followers and search their tweets. Twitterless also lets you autofollow and autoblock users. A bunch of features, certainly a site to bookmark.

Cool :

  • Auto follow, auto block
  • Unfollow notice
  • Graph of followers against time
  • Map of followers
  • Filter and search
  • tweet from browser address bar
  • No sign in required
  • Platform independent

Cons :

  • Sign in requires a key.
  • Could possibly be monetized in future.

6. TweetLater

Catching up with new followers and dropping a welcome message can mean good relationship management. TweetLater is a wonderful service, that offers four excellent features.

tweetlater - Auto welcome, auto follow

tweetlater - Auto welcome, auto follow

(i) Auto welcome message
When you get new followers, this feature automatically drops a direct message or a tweet in your public timline, welcoming your new followers. The message is customizable by the user.

(ii) Auto Follow
Auto follow everybody who follows. Ever wondered how Barack Obama managed to follow that many people?

(iii) Auto Digest
Compiles the bunch of tweets that are replied to you and sends them to your email as a digest.

(iv) Scheduled tweets
This feature will allow users to schedule their tweets in advance. Still in the oven and should be released soon.

TweetLater can really make an impact on your twitter profile, and i strongly suggest you to try it.

Thanks for the read. Please stumble this, if you liked it. Also follow me on twitter.

Hey. Wanted to thank you for mentioning twalala (I’m on the dev team) and to let your readers know that we’re still in very early development.

Which means that we’re currently working toward the goal of feature parity with an eye toward creating a fully-featured web-client.

I’d be keenly interested to get feedback from your readers, as we are always looking for ways to improve twalala. Thanks again.

Mr tweet is so boring, in the sense that it does not give you instant results. There are other tools which can do the job instantly like the ones listed in this article.

I love Friend or Follow – this is just what I was looking for!

I would add to this list:
    1) Tweetstats – generates graphs of your tweeting tendencies by month, day, and time, as well as info about who you @reply to most
    2) Twitterholic – shows top user stats
    3) Tweetburner – shortens a URL and then tracks clicks on it.

Good list with good descriptions of each tool. It has been surprisingly hard to find a good way to manage the followers/following lists, since Twitter’s own site is terrible at this!
