Sonos Multi Room Music System Review
A significant part of a digital home is a digital sound system. Freeing your music and being able to play it in any room is a very liberating experience. Sonos Multi Room Sound System is a digital sound system that gives a competent and flexible music experience.
Sonos Multi Room Music System supports multiple zones of music in your home. The system supports up to 32 individual zones, and all of them can play their own music or you can combine two or more zones to play the same music. Sonos uses its own wireless network to connect to the zones.
There are two types of players, the passive ZonePlayer 90 which you connect to an amplifier or powered speakers and the active ZonePlayer 120 which contains a 2×55 W amplifier. The system also consists of a wireless remote control (or you can use your iPhone or iPod Touch together with Sonos app). You need to connect at least one of your ZonePlayers to your broadband connection and your NAS to provide music to your system. Sonos plays most audio formats, and can connect to your NAS for storage and to the Internet for listening to Internet radio or to several online music services like Pandora, Rhapsody or Last.fm. It scans your music library really fast, and the Sonos controller (or the iPhone/iPod Touch app) presents your library in a very well structured way including album art.
So, what’s the verdict? Well, the system is very impressive.
- Configuring the system was dead simple, just press two buttons on the ZonePlayers and they are connected to the network.
- The playback functionality works great.
- The handling of Internet radio stations is quite impressive.
- The queuing feature is another strong feature.
- Every zone has it’s own queue and when you want to add something for playback you just add it to the queue.
A drawback is that the different music services is not available in all locations. It works great! All in all, this is a very impressive system that really takes your music experience to a whole new level.
