Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has just confirmed today that the next version of windows mobile platform, windows mobile 7 will be launched only in 2010. It was widely expected that WinMo 7 would be released later this year, but Ballmer put things clear on a conference call today. Many mobile manufacturers are supposed to receive WinMo 7 OS by November this year, and the mobiles are supposed to roll out by April next year. Ballmer also announced that the key partners, who will benefit from the release are HTC, LG and Orange.

Extending Windows 6.5 to Windows mobile 7

WinMo 6.5 is currently the latest version of windows mobile and enjoys the new user interface, primarily the dashboard like features on the home screen. The My Phone service, also enables windows 6.5 users to connect and store information on a web based service. Windows 7 will be a enhancement, building upon the current windows mobile 6.5 but the user interface is set to wear a new style. Windows mobile 7 may also be geared by the next version of mobile internet explorer, as Ballmer promised a better browsing experience.

Windows Mobile market place

Microsoft is also betting big on the idea of market place. which will enable users to download applications, both free as well as paid applications. After apple has won big with the appstore, Blackberry has also announced plans of App Storefront, Its time Microsoft start (read – copy the idea) its own application store and call it the windows market place.

Mobile Broadband

Microsoft has also announced plans to introduce mobile broadband features in Microsoft mobiles, which will enable users to access high speed broadband on their phones. With the speed of development of mobile internet spreading like wild fire, mobile broadband is set to hit the world in 2010 on a large scale.

Microsoft just changed the user interface in windows mobile 6.5 and is changing it yet again in windows mobile 7. Let us know about your thoughts about windows 7.
